The Perfect Bite:

There is not a Christmas that goes by without grandma’s chocolate pie on the dessert table. Being up in NY and away from her home cooking I have to make due with recreating it myself. This is her recipe as she gave it to me:

Grandma’s Chocolate Pie like her Mama made it:

1 1/4 cups sugar

3 tablespoons Coco powder

1 1/2 cups milk

2 tablespoons Butter

4 1/2 tablespoons flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 egg yolks (save the whites, set aside)

1 tsp vanilla

-Mix sugar, four, coco, salt. Then beat in milk and egg yokes. Cook on moderate heat until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Boil for 1 minute then remove from heat. *Won’t be thick yet. Mix in butter and vanilla. Pour into a BAKED pie shell.

-For the topping: Take the 3 egg whites and beat on high until stiff. Add 6 tablespoons of sugar gradually beating well. Spread over pie.

Bake at 350degrees until golden brown.
