The story behind Donna Karan’s show was that of an urban traveller…a woman who jetsets around the world, taking in its various beauties.

So what is the beauty routine of a woman intent on adventure?

“Think a chic glamorous hippie in the desert,” said lead makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury. The vibe was a sensual, earthy seventies. Tilbury was armed with a full spread of MAC’s cream eyeshadow to create a warmed-up, weather-beaten look with brown tones and bronzer. “This is make-up that looks good on everyone – it’s what every woman wants,” Charlotte explained. We quite agree.

“We contoured the eyes with cream eye colours in earth tones, sculpted cheeks with lashings of bronzer, and applied lip-plumping, tan-enhancing beigey-pink gloss. The foundation is glowy, too; there’s nothing matte about this look.”

Eyelashes were perfectly separated, curled, and coated in layers of mascara to create a doll-like effect…leaving the overall look to be quite feminine and seductive.

To achieve this look at home, try following Tilbury’s steps ~

1. Apply MAC Face and Body foundations in C5 and C7 to create a warm and glowy canvas.

2. Use concealer if needed.

3. Add Pleasure Mode blush {similar here} on cheekbones, then a hint of Mineralize Skinfinish over the blush.

4. Apply Paramount Lipstick with Ray of Sunshine LipGlass {similar here} on top.

5. Use Eclair Paint Pot to completely cover the lid and area around the eye (including below!) and blend.

6. Add individual false lashes on the top and bottom lids. Coat the top lashes with MAC Optilash Mascara, and the bottom lashes with Haute and Naughty mascara.

7. Sign yourself up for an African safari, because you are ready to go!

Because the makeup is so warm and “round”, hairstylist Eugene Souleiman wanted the hair to be a striking contrast: “very linear and straight…but no product. It’s straightened with irons and a comb…and it just looks like incredibly healthy, lustrous summer hair.” With a nod to the in-vogue Native American style of the seventies, he smoothed back a section of hair from the front, securing it at the crown with a small barrette, creating a small mohawk.

Overall, Eugene said, “the hair and makeup are about freshness, chicness, luminescence and realism, to reflect Donna’s collection.”
