I’ve been so cold recently, so ready for nights out without having to wear tights and boots and jackets and gloves… you get the idea, you’re having the same rages. I’ve tried to make it fun and now I’m starting color therapy, surrounding myself with red. It started by staring at the above image we have as a large print in the kitchen every morning, letting the red warm my blood vessels. That was the 4×5 color film photograph I was working on when Bee came over to interview us for Bal Harbour magazine and I was panicking because I wanted to get the shot before all the ice finished melting. And now I still feel like I’m thinking about the ice melting! So here is the HOTTEST color I could find around the studio and in funny nooks around to get us feeling warm!
Above: From my Donna Karan archive, Resort 2014 and every dream I have of leaving a great last impression as you walk away.
Above, putting on Lady Danger lipstick which I wore EVERYDAY here!
Above & Below, Lady in RED.
Below: As fate would have it, I received the new Yoana Baraschi fall lookbook starring Chelsea Leyland and saw this red coat which was part of her inspiration for “the desire for red in a grey world… there was a need for color—some kind of shot of energy and vitality from the red.” I’m 100% on board with that. I can’t wait to see more of the coming illustrated lookbook with Yoana & Chelsea for fall!
Below: Paint the roses red! I love a really hot, bright red orange (which reminds me of the 1940s and THIS movie, do you remember that?!) and Butter London has a gorgeous one in “Ladybird” which is so appropriate since I’m from Texas and you know… Ladybird.
Below: Now that’s a surprise! I’ve been super into lingerie these days, shooting it, buying it as gifts for my friends (which has now led to me being a personal consultant!) to a point where I think I can declare this as a hobby. The red bra and high-waisted brief set below is SO comfy and HIS fav of all the recent purchases! ppssssst- it’s currently on sale!
Above: Roses will always hold a special place in my heart…my grandmother had a rose garden when I was growing up, so the scent for me feels both comforting and beautiful. So when I found two exquisite Frederic Malle perfumes – the lighter, sweeter Lipstick Rose for daytime wear and the earthy Une Rose for night – I knew I had something special. The fragrances are both passionate in such different ways, and I feel like a rose myself when I wear them.
Below: Sometimes roses appear at the studio… and then get photographed on whatever new camera I have acquired….
Recently I met the legend Elliott Erwitt and purchased his book Kolor to add to my collection with books like Tim Walker Storyteller (a gift from her after this shoot), and Norman Parkinson’s Portraits in Fashion which was the first fashion book I ever experienced growing up in Texas.
Below: Laughing around the studio in NARS Cruella.
Below: NEW KICKS! While shooting with Nicole Mellon she taught me about Comme Des Garcons x Converse high-top sneakers that I have been running around the city in and even the beach!
Above: I was thumbing through my polaroid boxes recently when I came across these fun wardrobe test shots from our Lincoln shoot (which became props in her “boyfriend’s” apartment!) and I remembered my deep love for that Orla Kiely red coat.
I hope this explosion of RED has your blood pumping as much as mine! Xx
